Why Iwan teaches public speaking
That belief shapes how he teaches. Iwan cares less about how polished you look and more about whether people understood you.
So he watches how you speak first, then works on what gets in the way. The same approach works for an eleven-year-old giving a class talk and a CFO presenting to the board.
"We speak to express our ideas, our thoughts and our emotions in a way other people can understand. How we communicate determines the relationships we have, at work and in our personal lives. And the quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives."
He spots what you can't see
Few people can hear their own filler words or see their own habits. Iwan points them out, kindly and specifically.
Feedback you can use straight away
You get one or two changes to try, and you try them on the spot.
Practice with real people
Classes are in person, so you speak to a real audience and see how they react.
You still sound like yourself
He won't make you sound like him. He helps you become a clearer version of you.
See Iwan teach
Three short clips from a Train the Trainer session in 2024. Iwan explains why your words, voice and body language need to say the same thing, and why what people see, hear and feel shapes what they remember.
How Iwan became a public speaking trainer
Iwan didn’t start out as a trainer. He built businesses, faced tough rooms and found his voice through Toastmasters. Today he has personally trained more than 3,000 people, from first-time speakers to senior leaders.
- 2009 · Lokopoko
He started out building businesses
Iwan founded businesses in travel, training and education. He has pitched, sold and led teams himself, so he knows what the people in his classes face at work.
2014 · ToastmastersHe won at Toastmasters
Iwan became a multiple Toastmasters champion, with wins in International Prepared Speech, Humorous Speech and Evaluation. The Evaluation contest is about giving another speaker useful feedback, which is much of what he does in class today.
2019 · Speak Sell SucceedHe founded Speak Sell Succeed
Iwan set up Speak Sell Succeed to teach public speaking and presentation skills to working adults in Singapore. Our courses have been SkillsFuture Credit eligible since 2021, and he still teaches every one himself.
2025 · SuperMindsHe started teaching younger speakers
Adult students began asking Iwan to teach their children. That led to SuperMinds, our sister brand for children and teens aged 9 to 17. Iwan is a father of two boys himself.
What people say about learning with Iwan
Working adults who joined his classes, in their own words on Google.
“Over the course of just two days, I went from someone who dreaded the sound of her own voice in a room full of people, to someone who delivered not one but four presentations.”
“He has a rare ability to make you feel safe enough to be vulnerable, while also pushing you to grow beyond what you thought you were capable of.”
“The techniques he taught remain relevant with constant practice, and they have elevated not only how I present but also how I perform in my job.”
“He shows us that public speaking and communication are a skill. A skill that we can learn, practice, and master eventually.”
“He creates a warm and welcoming environment and encourages everyone in the class to speak without ever making anyone feel pressured.”
“What stood out most was how genuinely invested he was in each participant’s growth, not just as speakers, but as individuals.”
“Iwan is an engaging trainer who makes public speaking feel less intimidating. … I left with more confidence and useful ways to manage anxiety.”
“I think Iwan is great. He is so engaging. He’s able to explain concepts that can be a bit hard and complex in a very simple and easy to understand way. And I like how he substantiates his explanations with a lot of real life examples that are relatable, which allow us to better understand where he is coming from. I don’t think there was any concept that he taught that I did not get an understanding of, and I think that speaks to how good he is as a trainer.”

Rapport often starts with small talk. In this clip, Iwan uses Singapore's weather to show how. When two people like, or dislike, the same thing, they connect. When they don't, you change the topic until you find common ground.
From his keynote on building trust at a regional meeting of AGN, an association of accounting, audit and advisory firms.
